Hope Anchors Our Lives
“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” - Romans 5:1
God wants us to have hope. In a world where everyone wants to “manage expectations,” God wants the opposite. He wants us to see our potential and our potential to effect change in the world. There are several benefits to choosing a life filled with hope that Paul talks about in Romans 5.
Over the next three days, we are going to look at three reasons God wants you to choose hope, no matter what is going on in your life. The first reason is because hope anchors our lives upon that which is certain.
The context of Paul’s discussion of hope begins in Romans 5, where Paul says, “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Here, Paul is trying to suggest that what gives the believer safety, security, and confidence, called “peace” in the text, is when he or she makes decisions based upon hope. He’s not just talking about any kind of hope though.
This is a godly hope, not a worldly hope. Worldly hope carries with it the idea of taking your chances. When the word “hope” is used in the world, it conveys the idea of wishful thinking. But there is nothing wishful about the hope of God.
Paul is talking about a hope on which we can rely. We can trust it. It is a firm foundation.
Where is your hope? Godly hope is something we can believe in and not just wish for. It is a hope that anchors our lives. Choose godly hope and know He will never let you down.
