The Next Level of Faith
“‘Stay here with the donkey,’ Abraham told the servants. ‘The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.’” - Genesis 22:5
Everything you have been through in life, everything you have faced, has all been for a purpose. God was preparing you. He was preparing you for what is ahead. This is what God was doing with Abraham.
He was preparing Abraham for the next level of faith. This storm was designed to develop a dimension of faith that we had not seen in Abraham until we get to Genesis 22.
In verse 5, before he went up to the mountain, he told the young men, “Stay here with the donkey, the boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.”
This is interesting. Here, Abraham is going up to the mountain to sacrifice his son but speaks on the front end that he and his son are coming back. Then in verse 8, when Isaac asks, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?” Abraham responds that God will provide the lamb.
In other words, he went up that mountain believing that God would supply his every need, and so, even though he doesn’t see the supply, Abraham starts speaking that for which he was believing. This was the final phase of faith development in Abraham’s life.
It is the dimension of faith that requires you to speak what you want before you see what you want; to say it before you see it. Abraham didn’t know how God would do it, but he knew that God could not lie, and that God would be true to His word.
Have you experienced this type of “next-level faith?” Do you trust God to do what there is no visual evidence of? Anyone can be an observer. Anyone can believe in what they see. What God wants is for you to not only believe it, but speak of it before you see it. This is the type of “next level faith” God wants you to have in Him!
