Personal Worship
“Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.” - Psalm 95:6
Over the past few days, we have talked about what happens when God is allowed into our lives. God will not only lift our spirit and give us a new vision, but He will also give us renewed worship. This worship is decidedly personal. We see this in Genesis 18 where Abraham realizes He is in the presence of God when three guests come to his home.
Abraham is a man of means. He has wealth, resources, and influence. He is a man of prestige, position, and power. And yet, he is not so elevated that he cannot humble and surrender himself to God. He did not send his servants to greet these guests. Instead, it was something he needed to do himself. He shows us that for worship to have any power, it must be personal.
Abraham did not wait for others to lead him in worship. He didn’t need musicians, minstrels, and ministers to set the atmosphere for his worship. He is at home. There are no instruments, fancy tabernacles, or sacred furniture. All too often, we rely on other people or external religious items to create an atmosphere of worship for us. But worship, if it is real, must be personal.
You can lift your hands, you can open your mouth, you can raise your voice! God doesn’t need music, a choir, a psalmist, an organ, a keyboard, or a piano. All God needs is a willing heart and an uninhibited spirit. That is why David said, “I was glad when they said unto me let us go in the house of the Lord,” (Psalm 122:1)
Is your worship personal? Remember, when it comes to worshipping God, you do not need anything but your heart. God is great, and He deserves to hear it from us.
