When I Am Weak, Then I Am Strong
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
If you have been with us the last few days, you know that you can now be encouraged, because no matter what you are going through, no matter what struggles you have, God is going to use it for your good. No one is perfect. The truth is we cannot fix all of our imperfections. The good news is God doesn’t expect us to. In fact, the very thing that you believe could keep you from your dreams, might just be what God uses to get you there.
See, you serve a creative God. Sometimes we make the mistake of boxing God in. Or we start doubting God when we compare where we want to go and what we want to do to those who have already done it. We see the “prototypes,” what they look like, what they act like, what they come from, and how they got there. And then we compare ourselves to that. And we become discouraged when what we see all the ways in which we do not match up.
The problem is their story is not your story. God doesn’t want you to be the best version of them. He wants you to be the best version of you. It does not matter what you visually believe will keep you from your dreams, God knows that He is the author and perfecter who can do all things. We see in 2 Corinthians 12, as Paul asks God to remove the thorn (his weakness), and God says no.
But Paul learns to boast in his weakness because he knows God is going to use it. He says, “For when I am weak, then I am strong.” How can you be weak and strong at the same time? Because while we personally might be weak, our Savior is strong. You might be too short to play professional basketball, not smart enough to be a CEO, or not pretty enough to be a model. But with God, all things are possible if that’s His will for your life. Remember, “when I am weak, then I am strong!”
