Your Legacy
“A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.” - Proverbs 22:1
How will you be remembered? What will people say about the impact that you have made on this earth—your attitude, how you treated others, how you represented God?
The apostle Paul came to be an influential member in the Christian church. He spread the gospel on his missionary journeys and started numerous churches. However, before his conversion, he was a persecutor of Christians. He threatened disciples and he even approved of Stephen being stoned to death (Acts 8:1).
After an encounter with Jesus, Paul (at this time known as Saul) was blind for three days. Ananias, a disciple in Damascus, laid hands on Saul and said to him that the Lord “has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 9:17). Saul was healed of blindness and baptized.
Saul went to the synagogue in Damascus and preached to the Jews about Jesus, then he later began preaching the gospel to the Gentiles under his Roman name, Paul.
Although Saul was a persecutor of Christians, he created a legacy as Paul by praising and serving God. He said, “I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace” (Acts 20:24). And we can take on the same posture.
Your legacy can be one of selfish ambition or one of homage to God. However, the only thing that will matter is how you impacted others as a Christ-representative. What legacy as your cultivating?
