House Calls
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” - Luke 11:9-10
Growing up I used to watch old television shows and sitcoms that were popular back in the 50’s and 60’s. In those shows, I’d often see something that was really quite shocking. Whenever people got sick, doctors would actually take the time to come to the home of the person needing treatment, providing care and treatment for the ill patient in their house.
This is something you do not see anymore. Doctors don’t come to you. You must go to them. But there is a Physician who STILL makes house calls. Genesis 18 tells us about a God who makes personal visits.
Is God just in the heavens, way out there, disinterested in the affairs of humankind, as some religious and philosophical schools taught? Or is God down here, on earth, present with us. And if God is down here, where is He? Is He in nature, in the plants, the animals, and the trees? Or is God confined to the hallowed halls, and ornate temples that various people have constructed for His honor and worship?
God is not just out there, residing in come celestial abode in the sky. God is not just manifested in the elements of the air and nature, God is not confined in a cathedral, temple, or religious place of worship. God can, does, and wants to show up at your home, as well.
Do you ever feel like your problems are too small for God? Maybe you have struggled with this idea that in such a big world, you feel insignificant. But God does not view it this way. He loves you. God is omnipresent and can be everywhere at once. He has all the time in the world for you. And nothing of importance to you is unimportant to God. Invite Him in for a house call. He would love to visit you today!
