The Blessing Of Responsibility
In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:11-12)
As we continue to look at Paul’s words to the Ephesians about the blessings we receive from the Son of God, I see a fourth blessing we can add to the list, and that’s the blessing of responsibility.
We are not just called to have wisdom, understand wisdom, or possess wisdom, but we are called to use the wisdom we have as a tool to manifest the promises of God on earth. The whole of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation is about God changing people to change their world. If we bottle up God’s blessings for ourselves, we’re missing the reason for which He redeemed us, reconciled us, and now reveals His will to us.
He does all of that so that we can be a conduit of His presence in the earth. He blesses us that we might be a blessing. That is why as God’s people we serve others, so the world can experience the heart of God. That is why we give of ourselves and our offerings, so the world can experience the hand of God.
We’ve been blessed with responsibility, and therefore we should live in a way that shows we take that responsibility seriously. Furthering the kingdom of God is no small feat. It’s a huge task, one we can’t do alone. We must harness the power of the Holy Spirit and stand alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ as we move forward in carrying out our responsibility to make a difference for Christ. My prayer is that you will do your part in fulfilling your responsibility today and every day from here on out.
