God’s Will In God’s Timing
Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?” Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” – Genesis 18:11-14
Yesterday we talked about being still before the Lord so that He can speak to us. It’s important that we do this so we can become more familiar with the voice of God and therefore better discern His will for our lives.
Abram’s certainty in hearing the voice of God enabled him to trust God in the midst of what seemed to be an impossibility. The Bible declares that Abraham was old in age, and his wife past the age of conception. This is the season of life when many have decided if this couple having a baby hasn’t happened by now, it’s not going to happen. It was such an impossibility that when Abram’s wife Sarah hears she is going to have a child in chapter 18, she is so incredulous that she laughs. And yet, even though this promise seems laughable, Abram trusts God in the face of what looks like an impossibility.
Bishop Noel Jones was right years ago when he preached from this text that God is so awesome that He is going to make you laugh. When you are really connected to the will of God, God will do something that will literally blow your mind. Abram chose to believe God even when no one else did. He chose to trust God even when there seemed to be no conceivable way this miracle could come to pass. Even when that promise was delayed for many years, he stuck with God understanding that a promise delayed is not a promise denied.
Don’t ever think that because what God has spoken over your life is delayed, that it’s denied. While it may not have happened, you must choose to believe that it just hasn’t happened YET. What I’ve come to know about God is that He takes his time to prepare the promises for His children. And it may not happen when you want it to happen, but when it does happen, it will be right on time.
