His Patience With Us
And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him. (2 Peter 3:15)
We’ve talked for the past few days about Jesus knocking on the door of our lives and asking us to let Him in. With that image in mind, I want you to remember something. As He stands there knocking, He is not banging on the door. He is not beating on the door. No, He is patient. He is a God who does not turn away quickly. He knows we are home, but He still stands there waiting patiently for us.
Isn’t that the real story of Scripture? At the end of the day, isn’t the Bible just one big love story?
If I was a counselor and I had to counsel God on His relationship with one of us, I would tell Him to leave the relationship. If He told me that time and time again He protects, provides for, and has plans for His children, and He still has to beg them to pray, to worship, and to read His Word, I might counsel Him to leave. If He told me that He consistently and unconditionally loved His children, but the children didn’t show any sign of returning that love, I would counsel Him to walk away.
Thankfully, the Lord doesn’t think like we do. There is nothing we could do that would make the Lord give up on us. He is so patient with us, even when we aren’t patient with Him. And He loves us perfectly, completely, and unconditionally.
Our lives are transformed through the power of God’s love. It’s a love that makes burdens lighter and hope brighter. Won’t you accept that love today and do your best to show the Lord you love Him too?
