Don’t Get Stuck on the Mountain
"And Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah." – Matthew 17:4
There are moments in life when God moves in ways that are so clear, so powerful, and so personal, you never want to leave them. That was Peter’s response on the mountain of Transfiguration. He saw Jesus’ glory revealed. He saw Moses and Elijah standing with Him. He heard the voice of God. And in that moment, Peter didn’t want to move forward. He wanted to build tents and stay there forever.
That sounds spiritual on the surface. But in reality, Peter was trying to freeze a moment that was never meant to last. God had given them a glimpse of His glory, not so they could camp on the mountain, but so they could carry that experience into what was next. Jesus didn’t call them up the mountain to settle there. He brought them there to prepare them for what was coming.
You’ve had moments like that, too. Maybe it was a breakthrough, a season of growth, a time when everything felt right and you felt close to God. And without realizing it, you started chasing that feeling again, trying to recreate what God was doing back then. But the truth is, the presence of God is not something to trap in a moment. It is something to walk with every day.
The danger is turning a powerful memory into a permanent mindset. You stop looking for what God wants to do now because you're too busy trying to relive what He did then. But the same God who moved before is still moving. He is not finished with you, and He is not asking you to stay where you were. He’s asking you to follow Him forward.
God will always honor what He did in your past, but He will never call you to stay stuck in it. There is more to experience, more to learn, and more to become. So remember the mountain, but don’t live there. Let the moment fuel your faith, not freeze your progress.
