I'm Not Staying Here
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.” - Isaiah 43:18
We have spent the last week talking about Abram and the example he set as he fought for Lot’s life rather than giving up. We talked about not wasting too much time analyzing how we got to where we are, but instead figuring out what we are going to do next. Abram’s actions said, “I may not know how we got here, but we are not going to stay here.”
When you lose a lot, you must determine whether what you lost is worth fighting for. Is your family worth fighting for? Is your relationship worth fighting for? Is your job worth fighting for? If you are reading this today, maybe God is trying to tell you, as you are so close to giving up, that what you are wrestling with is worth fighting for.
In a world where so many people are struggling, a world in which so many people are trying to make their way, so many are quick to give up. But God does not want you to be one who gives up. He is not concerned with you figuring out why you are where you are.
Nothing happens by accident. God is in complete control. He is less interested in you analyzing how you got here, and more interested in what you are going to do about it, specifically, when you come to the point that you decide, “I’m not staying here.”
Isaiah 43:18 tells us, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.” The very next verse continues… “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” In that verse, God says, “Do you not perceive it?” If you are spending all your time analyzing, caught up in how you got here, you will not see what he is doing next. You will not see the way through the wilderness, or in other words, your way out.
Sometimes, God wants you to be content with where you are, but other times, He wants you to be committed to getting out, to say, “I’m not staying here.” So, follow His way through the wilderness and He will lead you to a place of abundance.
