Frequently and Fervently
“Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
As you wait patiently for God to work a miracle in, through, or for you, there is something you must do. That’s right, you have a responsibility. God is the one who is working, but you also must be doing your part. .
What is your part? Prayer. God wants you to be consistent in your prayer life as you wait for Him to work. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 commands us to, “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
This week we talked about Elijah and his commitment to God at Mt. Carmel. Elijah prayed with faith. But what I want you to notice is that the prayer he prayed was frequent and fervent. If you read the story, you will realize Elijah’s prayer life was not haphazard or random.
Instead, it seems to have been a lifestyle for him. Did you catch that? It was not merely something to which he resorted when things got tough. You know how we do. We only pray when we get in a jam. But that was not the case with Elijah.
When Elijah told his servants to go and look out over the sea seven times, it sent a message. It was a picture of frequency and fervency within his prayers. If you want God to work in your life, it is not enough to simply mention your request one time and then go on with your life.
If you really want God to change your story and your circumstances, it requires FREQUENCY and FERVENCY in your prayer life. God wants you to make praying to Him a lifestyle. When you make this change, and you begin seeking Him, praying to Him DAILY, He will change your life. And more importantly, He will change you!
