Prayer Changes Things
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. (1 John 5:14)
Yesterday we talked about how Simeon spent time in the Word of God in order to renew and recharge His faith when doubt about God’s promises crept in. Today, I want us to look at the importance of spending time in prayer if we want the Lord to not only move in our lives, but move in our hearts as well.
Prayer is a divine conversation and connect with God, and it changes our circumstances. That’s why the Bible says in 1 John 5:14, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” Job 22:27 says, “You will pray to him, and he will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows.” Jeremiah 29:12 says that when we call on the Lord, He listens to us.
Prayer changes our situation. That’s why the saints of old used to say “take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there.” Prayer not only changes our situation, but it also changes us. A consistent prayer life will sustain your faith until you see your promise.
While Simeon was waiting, he was praying. He was talking to God, staying in consistent communication with Him. And he was doing what Paul admonished in Philippians 4:6 when he said, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Let’s be the kind of people who follow Simeon’s example. Let’s consistently remain in a posture of prayer, taking all of our burdens, all of our questions, and all of our doubts to the feet of Jesus. Let’s carve out time each day to talk to our Heavenly Father, and let’s wait expectantly for Him to not only bring change to our circumstances, but to bring change in us as well.
