No Shame In Asking For Help
Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” (Matthew 20:32-33)
For some reason, asking for help has been labeled as a sign of weakness in today’s culture. This upsets me because if you never ask for help, how will things get any better? You’re never going to experience the peace, the relief, the freedom, or the healing you so desperately need if you’re never willing to ask this simple question, “Will you help me?”
The two blind men in our key passage today knew that their condition was such that they were not able to handle it themselves, and the only way it was going to get better was for them to open up their mouths and ask for help. They didn’t let their ego get in the way and prevent them from being transparent about what they were going through. Their example is one that we should keep in the forefront of our minds so that we can be reminded how there is no shame in asking for help when we need it.
Consider this: you can’t heal what you’re trying to conceal. Whatever you’re struggling with, now is the time to deal with it. And the only way to do that is to admit to yourself, to God, and sometimes to others that something is wrong, and you need help.
In what area(s) do you require assistance? Wherever it is, I pray that God would give you the courage, the humility, and the boldness you need to seek help so that you are one step closer to physical, as well as spiritual, relief.
