Focus On God’s Way
“‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’” - Isaiah 55:8-9
As we continue to look at the story of Abram in Genesis 15, we are fixated on a man who is waiting on God to deliver His promise. Perhaps you can relate? Maybe God has given you something or told you something He is going to do in your life, and now you are just waiting for Him to make it happen. Perhaps you can relate to where Abram is in Genesis 15.
The Lord was reminding Abram that He does not have to fear. He wanted Abram to know that he can overcome his fear by remembering to focus on God’s way. The passage of time has caused Abram to give up on the idea that he’s going to have a child because he and his wife Sarai are now beyond the phase of life in which this is thought to be possible. And so, from a natural perspective, it is not going to happen. He thinks that maybe he has gotten it wrong.
Perhaps, he concludes the promise will come through his servant, Eliezer. The passage of time causes him to question not whether God would provide, but how. Sometimes, we are just like Abram. We know God’s Word. We believe God’s Word. We just struggle with God’s methods. But we must not forget that God’s way is always the best way, and it is in our best interest.
Isaiah 55:8-9 tells us, “‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’” His ways might be different from our ways, but they are also better than our ways. Focus on His way, and everything will work out in your best interest.
