Looking Up
“Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, your ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.” - Psalm 24:7
Thomas Edison was deaf in one ear and hard of hearing in the other due to the effects of the scarlet fever and a bow to the head. However, Edison stated that this was in fact a blessing because he was able to concentrate on his work without distractions, and his work birthed some of the greatest inventions of all time.
We often see life’s challenges as an inconvenience and an impediment to our progress; however, those challenges are what often strengthen us. If we continue to do the same thing the same way, we never grow out of our comfort zone.
When you face difficulty, what is your initial response—to complain or throw in the towel? Or do you pray and ask God for guidance? The truth is, many of us first develop frustration and try to solve the issue on our own merit. Yes, we must find a solution, but our solution should include looking up to God for guidance. And this response takes practice.
The more difficulties we face, the greater the number of chances we have to exercise or faith in God. And with prayer, it will become second nature to run to God in difficulty. The next time you are struggling with something, I challenge you to look up to God for guidance and pray; and even if that situation does not immediately change, your attitude towards it will.
