The Blessing Of Reconciliation
For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. (Romans 5:10)
We recently talked about the blessing of redemption that came as a result of Jesus’ death and resurrection. But that’s not the only blessing we’ve received from Christ. Another blessing we can be thankful for is the blessing of reconciliation.
When Jesus paid for our redemption, we received forgiveness and reconciliation in the process. Forgiveness is what occurs when God takes the penalty for our sins, throws them in the sea of forgetfulness as the prophet Micah says, and reconciles us by bringing us back into right relationship with God.
Reconciliation is what you go through when your checkbook and your bank statement don’t have the same balance. When there’s a problem, you try to fix it and identify why those two numbers don’t match. You don’t throw up your hands and give up because the numbers don’t agree. You do the work to find the error. That process of fixing the error is called reconciliation.
Jesus Christ came to fix our error by reconciling us back to God. He came to restore our balance and our relationship with God. Romans 5:10 says, “For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life.” Isn’t it good to know that with everything we’ve done in our past and in our lives that God forgives us of our trespasses?
Reconciliation is a great reminder that our relationship with the Lord is only possible because of Christ’s work on the Cross. There’s no way we could have made reconciliation happen on our own, so let’s keep in mind what a blessing it is that we’ve been reconciled to God through His Son, even though we did nothing to deserve it.
