Where Are You Willing to Walk?
“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” – Hebrews 11:8
Following God will take you into places that look unfamiliar. It might be a new job, a new city, a new calling, a new level of responsibility, or even a new version of yourself. Whatever it is, unfamiliar ground requires uncomfortable faith. It will stretch you, unsettle you, and challenge everything in you that prefers predictable routines and controlled outcomes.
When we say “yes” to God, we often picture immediate clarity. But more often, He leads us like He did Abraham. Step by step, without showing the full map. Abraham left behind the familiar land of his father and walked into a promise that had not yet materialized. He didn’t get to see the end before he started. He walked into the unknown simply because God told him to go. That’s the kind of trust unfamiliar ground demands.
Unfamiliar might look like stepping into leadership when you feel unqualified. It might be launching a ministry, starting over after failure, or rebuilding when all you have are broken pieces. It might mean giving up a safe path and risking everything for what God whispered in your spirit. That’s what makes it faith. If you could see it clearly, you wouldn’t need trust.
These unfamiliar places also expose what you’ve been depending on. When you walk where you’ve never walked, your crutches fall away. You learn quickly that you can’t lean on feelings, comfort, or past formulas. All you have is God. And that’s exactly where He wants you.
Don’t run from the unfamiliar. Don’t settle for a faith that never leaves the shallow end. If God is leading you into something new, it will not always feel secure, but it will always be sacred. The unfamiliar places are often the exact ground where your growth is waiting, where your calling deepens, and where your intimacy with God becomes real.
If you want to step into the more God has for you, then you must be willing to walk into what you do not yet understand. Unfamiliarity is not unsafe when God is guiding you. It is simply the address of your next assignment.
