When Giving Becomes Contagious
"Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle." – Exodus 40:34
There is something powerful that happens when people are unified around a purpose bigger than themselves. In Exodus 35 and 36, we see a people who were once enslaved now joyfully giving back to the God who had set them free. The language in these chapters says it all. Every person. Each one. All who were willing. Again and again, we see a pattern of contagious generosity spreading through the community.
This wasn’t a passive group waiting to be served. This was a movement of people ready to serve. Some brought valuable materials like gold and fine linens. Others brought skills like craftsmanship, design, or construction. Everyone had something to offer, and they gave with joy. They didn’t see giving as a burden; they saw it as a privilege. And it caught on. The more people gave, the more others were moved to do the same.
Contagious giving is not just about money. It is about a spirit of contribution. It is when people stop asking what they can get and start asking what they can give. It is when the atmosphere is so full of purpose and passion that everyone wants to be a part of what God is doing. That kind of culture builds momentum. That kind of energy creates a movement.
And the result? When the people brought their gifts, did their part, and completed the work, something amazing happened. The glory of the Lord filled the space. The presence of God was so thick, so overwhelming, that even Moses could not enter. That is what contagious giving leads to. Not applause or attention. But glory. The kind of glory that changes lives, builds up the community, and brings heaven close to earth.
Let that be our aim. Not giving to be seen but giving so that God can be seen. Because when the work is done in God’s way for God’s glory, there will always be more than enough.
