What Do You Stand For?
“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” - Matthew 5:16
What do you stand for? What are your values? What does your life communicate? What do others say about you?
Character is having a high moral and ethical code, while integrity is the actions taken to stand behind that code. For example, as followers of Christ, we understand the Bible is our guide. We know we should love God as well as others. We know that judgment is reserved for God. We know that patience is a fruit of the spirit.
But what actions do we take to act out that love, accept others, and practice patience? What actions do we take to act out our faith? Our Christ-walk is a daily journey. The more we exercise, the stronger we get.
It does not mean we are perfect, or that we’ll never mess up. But the goal is to embody characteristics, traits, and values that are in alignment with God’s ways, so that when others see us, they see Him.
Jesus fed the poor, he listened and helped those who society ignored, he challenged authorities that placed form and fashion above faith and love. He was not concerned about putting on an image to look good in the sight of others. He knew his fidelity was to Father God.
Do your daily habits align with what you say you stand for? Are you embodying the things you want to be known for? If not, now is a good time to consider making those changes. Don’t just talk about it, be about it!
