Are You Walking Away?
“…There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. - Romans 3:22-24
Are you walking away from the church or removing yourself from a Christian friend group? Maybe you made a mistake (even a big one), and you cannot stand to hear the judgment and lectures from those closest to you. Maybe you even feel like what you need most right now is something no one can give to you.
If you can relate, then you are not alone. The Bible recognizes that we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. God is not some mean judge sitting up in heaven ready to bring the hammer down on you. Today’s key Scripture passage reveals a loving God who, when everyone else seems to want to crucify you for your mistake, wants to show you that He still loves you and is in your corner, providing grace through redemption.
As believers, we often know when we have messed up. It is always funny to me when coaches yell at their players for a mistake after the fact. In basketball, when a player misses the shot and the coach yells, “you have to make that!” as if the player is trying to miss it. You probably knew right away when you messed up. You might have even regretted it that day. Regardless, do not let those around you, who are quick to judge, influence your decision to remain faithful to God in this time.
When others act in an un-Christlike manner, it is easy to want nothing to do with them. But that does not mean that you should walk away from God. He loves you and wants to help you. The Bible tells us as far as the east is from the west, God has separated us from our sin. When you mess up, don’t walk away from God. Instead, run to him. He still loves you and will always be there for you, no matter what.
