There’s Something Greater on the Other Side
"Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?" – John 14:1-2
When your heart is heavy, it’s easy to believe the pressure you’re under is the end of the story. That’s how the disciples felt. Jesus was preparing them for His departure, and they couldn’t wrap their minds around what was happening. But instead of letting their fear take over, He points them to something greater. He tells them not to let their hearts be troubled because His leaving was part of a bigger plan.
It’s not that the pain wasn’t real. It was. But Jesus knew the pain had a purpose. He was going to prepare a place for them. He was moving toward something eternal, and He was inviting them to trust the plan even when they didn’t understand it.
That’s a word for you today too. You might be facing something that feels like a detour or a disaster, but what if it’s actually a setup? What if the thing you’re crying over now is the very thing God is using to shift your purpose and move you into the life He’s called you to live?
In the movie Harriet, we learn that Harriet Tubman didn’t originally return to the South to start a freedom mission. She went back to find her husband. But when she got there, she found he had moved on and remarried. Heartbroken and sitting under a tree, she heard God speak to her spirit. “You thought I brought you back here to get your husband. I brought you back here to free your people.” What felt like rejection was actually redirection. What looked like loss was really the beginning of legacy.
That’s how God works. What He permits, He plans to use. The heartbreak, the letdown, the unexpected detour might just be the turning point toward something greater. Romans 8:28 reminds us that all things work together for the good of those who love Him. Not some things. All things.
