The Danger Of Loving Money
"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'" - Hebrews 13:5
The writer of Hebrews connects contentment directly to freedom from the love of money. Notice it's not money itself that's problematic, but the love of it.
When we love money, we're really loving the security, status, or power we think it provides. But these are illusions.
True security comes from God's unchanging promise: "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
This promise transforms how we think about financial security. While we should be wise stewards of our resources, our ultimate trust rests not in our bank accounts but in God's faithfulness.
This perspective frees us to be generous, to take risks for justice, and to live with open hands rather than clenched fists.
Examine your relationship with money this week. Are you trusting in your savings account or in God's provision?
Consider one way you can demonstrate trust in God's faithfulness through generous giving or financial risk-taking for justice.
Prayer:
Lord, free us from the love of money and help us trust in your faithful provision. Give us generous hearts that reflect our confidence in your care. Amen.
