Strength Through Christ
"I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength." - Philippians 4:12–13
Paul reveals the secret of his contentment: it flows from Christ's strength, not his own willpower.
This isn't about gritting your teeth and forcing yourself to be satisfied. It's about drawing on divine resources that enable supernatural peace.
Christ's strength sustains us when our own resources run dry. This strength enables us to face both abundance and scarcity with equal grace.
In times of plenty, we can remain humble and generous. In times of need, we can maintain dignity and hope.
This kind of contentment becomes a powerful tool for justice work, as we're freed from the fear that often prevents us from taking stands for what's right.
Identify an area where you've been trying to manufacture contentment through your own effort. Ask Christ to strengthen you in that area, and practice depending on his power rather than your own.
