Is Your Relationship Complementing You?
“And you have been made complete in Christ, which is head over every ruler and authority.” - Colossians 2:10
Does your relationship complement you or complete you? This is an important question you should consider when thinking about who you are, not only in your relationship, but in all areas of your life. For many, their relationship completes them. They go into the relationship, often broken and looking for someone who can “make them whole again.”
The problem with this idea is that God is the only one who can complete us. As cliche as this sounds, it is the truth. God designed us to rely on Him. He has given us human interaction and relationships as a gift, but these relationships are limited.
So many people get out of relationships that leave them broken. They then turn to the next person with hopes that the individual can pick up the pieces and put them back together, and maybe even make them happier than they have ever been.
This unfound hope is not only unfair to your partner, but it will only leave you with more disappointment when they cannot put the pieces back together. There is hope, however. Instead of turning to the next man or woman in a relationship, turn to God. He already knows all of your thoughts and feelings, and He wants to help you. God wants the very best for you. If you turn to Him first, He will complete you. He will provide everything you could ever need.
When you try this approach, your relationships will be even stronger because now they are complementary to the person you already are. So trust God to complete you and dare to see who you become.
