The Great Redeemer
So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?”
And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.” (1 Samuel 30:8)
Mandarin is one of the more popular dialects or families of the Chinese language. In doing some research on Mandarin, I learned that the Chinese use symbols as a means of expressing words. Recently I came across something that I found quite interesting. I learned that in Mandarin, the word “crisis” is expressed by two symbols, one meaning danger, the other meaning opportunity.
The point is that out of danger, crisis, and difficulty comes opportunity. As I reflected on it, I thought that’s a good way of looking at those moments in our lives when we are confronted with trials. Trials, whatever they are, are nothing more than doors of opportunity to make us better, stronger, to give us greater clarity, and to lead us to our destiny.
I want you to be equipped to navigate those moments in life that hurt you—whether attacks, losses, grief, breakdown, break ups, tragedy, layoffs, let downs, heartaches, struggles, stress, or pain—so you can use them as opportunities to see God’s redeeming work.
While loss is not easy to experience or comfortable to endure, the good news of the Bible is that if you are committed, determined, and steadfast, you can watch God turn every loss into a win; every setback into a setup, and every defeat into a victory. Just look at our key verse for today. God told David, “You shall recover all.”
You can take a loss and bounce right back. That’s what I want to help you understand; regardless of what you lost, what was taken from you, or what you endured, you can bounce back from it. You can bounce back from being fired. You can bounce back from being let go. You can bounce back from rejection. You can bounce back from grief. You can bounce back from divorce. And I think that’s good news. Our troubles, heartaches, and setbacks don’t have to last always, because the Lord is with us and He is the great Redeemer.
