It’s Worth Fighting For
"When Abram heard that his kinsman had been taken captive, he led forth his trained men, born in his house, 318 of them, and went in pursuit as far as Dan." - Genesis 14:14
Sometimes life hits you with a loss you didn’t see coming. A relationship you poured yourself into ends. A dream you’ve been working toward feels like it’s slipping away. The peace you once had is now buried under anxiety. When that happens, it can be tempting to throw your hands up and walk away. But before you give up, you need to ask yourself a simple question: Is what you lost worth fighting for?
In Genesis 14, Abram faces that question head-on. His nephew Lot has been captured by enemy kings and carried off. This isn’t just a distant relative. Lot is like a son to Abram, someone he’s invested years of love, money, and guidance into. When word reaches him that Lot has been taken, Abram doesn’t hesitate. He doesn’t sit around blaming himself or Lot. He immediately mobilizes his men and goes after what’s been stolen. Because for Abram, Lot represented more than family; he was part of the promise God had given him.
That’s the heart of this story for you. There are some things in your life too tied to God’s promise for you to leave behind. Your peace. Your purpose. Your family. Your calling. Your future. The enemy will try to convince you it’s too far gone. He’ll whisper that it’s easier to move on. But if God gave it to you, it’s worth fighting for.
Abram didn’t let regret, fear, or bitterness paralyze him. He fought. And God gave him victory. What could God restore in your life if you stopped analyzing what went wrong and started pursuing what still belongs to you? What would shift if you believed your joy, your peace, your future was still recoverable?
Today, you’re standing at that same crossroads. Will you let what was taken stay gone, or will you rise up in faith and fight for it? The promise on your life is too valuable to walk away from. It’s time to go get back what the enemy tried to steal.
