Get It Back
"When Abram heard that his kinsman had been taken captive, he led forth his trained men, born in his house, 318 of them, and went in pursuit as far as Dan." – Genesis 14:14
Abram had every reason to grow bitter in the book of Genesis. He had invested so much into Lot. Raised him like a son. Given him land. Helped him build a future. And Lot still made choices that got him caught up in a situation he never should have been in. But instead of sitting in bitterness, instead of analyzing every detail or blaming anyone involved, Abram made one decision. He got up and went after him.
He did not get stuck in the trap so many of us fall into. That paralysis of analysis. That endless cycle of wondering who to blame or how it all went wrong. He didn’t rehearse the pain. He didn’t drown in regret. He didn’t get lost in the emotions of it. He moved.
Some of us spend so much time figuring out why we lost something that we forget to go fight for it. And that is the difference between healing and staying stuck. Bitterness will convince you it’s better to stay mad than to get up. Pride will tell you it’s not worth the trouble. But the question still stands. Is it worth the fight?
Is your peace worth it? Is your marriage worth it? Is your sanity, your sobriety, your dream, your family worth fighting for? You better believe it is. There comes a point where you stop asking how you got here and start deciding how you're going to get out. And if you have to get up, strap up, and walk into enemy territory to take back what the enemy stole from you, then do it.
Abram went on offense. Not defense. He didn’t wait for the enemy to come knocking. He took the fight to them. Just like David did when his family was taken. He didn’t sit in sorrow; he rose in strength and recovered it all.
What has been taken from you? What dream, what peace, what identity did the enemy try to rob from your life? It is not too far gone. It is not beyond reach. But you will have to go after it. Let go of the bitterness. Lay down the blame. And believe again that this is worth it.
This is not the season to fold. It is the season to fight. You have come too far to walk away now. Get up. Get moving. And get your stuff back.
