Hearing God After Loss
"Now the Lord said to Abram, 'Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you.'" - Genesis 12:1
Abram’s story didn’t start in a place of success. It started in a place of loss. By the time God called him in Genesis 12, he had already experienced deep pain and disappointment. His brother had died. His father had passed away. His wife couldn’t have children. And he was camped out in a place called Haran. A place marked by grief and unfulfilled dreams.
Yet, it’s in this place of pain that God speaks to Abram. And what’s incredible is that Abram didn’t let his pain deafen him to God’s voice. Even at 75 years old, when most people would have given up, Abram kept his heart open to what God was saying.
It’s easy to let pain drown out the voice of God. When life hits hard and you feel like you’ve lost too much, the temptation is to close yourself off and assume your best days are behind you. But Abram’s story teaches us something powerful: It’s never too late for God to do something incredible in your life.
Sometimes, God’s greatest callings come when you feel least capable of fulfilling them. Abram could have made excuses. He could have said he was too old, too broken, or too far gone. But instead, he listened. He remained open. And because of that, God led him into a future greater than he could have ever imagined.
Maybe you feel like you’re camped out in your own Haran right now. Maybe the losses you’ve experienced have left you feeling stuck, numb, or hopeless. But God’s voice is still speaking. He hasn’t given up on you. The question is, are you still listening?
Let go of the disappointments. Remove the distractions. Press past the delays. God is not finished with you. If you want to win in life, you must remain open to His voice even after a major loss. And when you choose to listen, you might just find that God has something greater ahead than anything you left behind.
