Can You Just Enjoy the Trip?
“So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” - Galatians 5:1
Have you ever gone on a group trip with friends or family? If you have, then you know there’s always someone on the trip who must micromanage every detail of the trip. And so you leave the trip more stressed than you were before because this one person is so obsessed about every detail that they just cannot just enjoy the journey.
I decided not to live like that and I’m not going to let other people stress me out. I’m not going to allow other people to cause me to obsess about things that aren’t worth obsessing over. I’m just going to enjoy the trip.
Don’t be so uptight that you can’t enjoy the morning sun, the sunset, and the sound of the birds. Don’t be so upset that you can’t enjoy the ups and downs, the twists and turns, and the things in life that you can’t anticipate.
Paul says the way we enjoy the journey is to realize that in Christ we have been made free, and that’s enough. You don’t have to impress anyone. You don’t have to conform to anyone else’s expectations for your life – what career you should have, where you should live, whom you should marry, whether you get married at all.
Paul’s declaration in Galatians 5:1, “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” The verse speaks to a central but often forgotten truth about humanity.
All of us were born free and we should live our lives free. Freedom and acceptance are not something one has to work for or get permission from someone else; rather it is something one simply embraces. Embrace your freedom. Enjoy the trip!
