Faith Over Fear
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” – Hebrews 11:6
One way to lose your power is to succumb to fear. One of the enemy’s most popular tactics is to convince you to be fearful of your situation, as opposed to having faith. God called Jonah to “Go at once to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before me” (Jonah 1:2). However, out of fear, Jonah ran from the Lord and ended up thrown overboard a ship and in the belly of a large fish.
Fear caused Jonah to go down a less-than-favorable path all because he was afraid that God was going to request something of him in which he could not perform. Fear planted seeds of doubt in his mind and led him to devise a plan of escape.
Have you ever tried to evade God the way that Jonah did and ended up in a less-than-favorable situation? God told you to take that job, write that book, mentor those individuals, pray, fast, stay away from those people, but you said, God “I am not ready to do what you are asking;” and as a result you were left saddened, lonely, lost, disrespected, or frustrated.
God wants us to choose faith over fear because He wants us to recognize that He is the source of our strength. If we could do it on our own, we wouldn’t need Him. Today, I encourage you to let go of control and hand the reigns over to God. He will not steer you anywhere where His grace cannot sustain you.
