Contentment With Our Bodies
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." - Psalm 139:13–14
In a culture obsessed with physical perfection, finding contentment with our bodies requires intentional effort.
The psalmist reminds us that we are God's handiwork, carefully crafted by the Creator of the universe.
Our bodies, with all their limitations and imperfections, are fearfully and wonderfully made.
This contentment doesn't mean neglecting our health or accepting preventable illness. Rather, it means treating our bodies with respect as temples of the Holy Spirit while not deriving our worth from our appearance.
When we're content with how God made us, we're freed to focus on serving others rather than obsessing over our own image.
Practice speaking positively about your body this week. Thank God for the ways your body allows you to serve others, and consider how you can care for your physical health as an act of stewardship.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for creating our bodies with care and purpose. Help us to be content with how you made us while caring for our health as good stewards of your gifts. Amen.
