Don’t Miss Thanksgiving
"Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice" - Luke 17:15
In Luke 17, ten lepers cried out to Jesus for mercy, and all ten received it. But only one turned around. Only one returned with gratitude in his heart. The others got their healing and kept walking. They received the miracle but missed the moment. On a day like today, when so much focus goes into the meal, the decorations, the people, the plans, the question still presses on your heart: Are you going to be one of the nine, or will you be the one who turns back?
Gratitude is more than a feeling. It is a decision to respond. It is not about having the perfect situation but about recognizing the hand of God in your life and refusing to move on without giving Him the thanks He deserves. This leper didn’t return to say thank you because someone reminded him. He didn’t return because it was a holiday. He returned because something in him refused to move forward without worshiping the One who had changed everything.
There is a danger in receiving blessings without ever stopping to honor the Giver. Sometimes it is easier to keep walking into the next thing, to move on with your day, to get caught up in what’s missing, what is stressful, or what didn’t go the way you expected. But when you do that, you can miss the power that is released through praise. The one who turned back wasn’t just healed. Jesus said he was made whole. There is something that happens in your soul when you stop and give God the glory.
So here you are. Maybe everything isn’t perfect. Maybe there’s still some mess, some waiting, some unanswered prayers. But what has He done? What did you ask Him for that He delivered? What doors did He open? What healing did He provide? What did He protect you from that you will never even know about? Do not let today pass without turning back.
You might have a lot on your plate this Thanksgiving. But make sure gratitude is the biggest thing you serve. Say thank you. Speak it loud. Let your worship rise. And make sure you are never counted among the ones who just kept walking.
