God’s Plan Doesn’t Wait for Your Preferences
"And he said to all, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.'" – Luke 9:23
God is always moving. His plans are unfolding. His purpose is advancing. And the truth is, He’s not stopping to ask what you’re most comfortable with. When God moves, He doesn’t pause to consider whether the direction feels ideal to you. He doesn't call a meeting to review your wishlist. He simply invites you to follow.
That’s a hard truth in a culture obsessed with customization. We tailor our playlists, our meals, our routines, our social feeds. We’re used to having things our way, on our terms, at our pace. But when it comes to walking with God, that mindset will trip you up fast. Because God’s call is not about convenience. It’s about obedience.
Jesus didn’t say, “Come after me if the path feels right to you.” He said, “Take up your cross.” And that cross doesn’t come with padded handles and optional accessories. It comes with surrender.
God’s call to Abraham was not based on how settled he felt in Ur. God didn’t check in with Moses to see if he preferred Egypt or Midian. Jesus didn’t ask the disciples what city they liked best before sending them out. And He won’t ask you to vote on the route either. He simply says, “Follow me.”
Sometimes we stall because the plan doesn’t fit our preferences. We want a calling that lines up with our timeline, our comfort zone, our strengths, and our vision board. But God will often lead you to things that don’t look like your idea of blessing yet are the very path to your breakthrough.
When you hold too tightly to your preferences, you risk missing His presence. But when you surrender and move with Him, even when the direction feels uncomfortable or unfamiliar, you find the life He always intended for you.
The question isn’t whether God will align His plan to your liking. The question is whether you will align your life to His leading. Will you follow when it’s inconvenient? Will you obey when it disrupts your expectations?
He’s moving. His purpose is good. His timing is perfect. But He’s not waiting on your preferences. He’s waiting on your yes.
