What Are You Still Holding on to?
“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” – Philippians 3:8
Movement always costs something. When God calls you forward, He also calls you to let go. The more you want to follow Him, the more you’ll have to lay down. That is not always sin. Sometimes, the heaviest things to release are the ones that have brought you comfort, identity, and purpose. But if it no longer fits where God is leading, then it is only slowing you down.
Let’s be real. Some of us are holding on to relationships we have no business keeping. Not because they are healthy, but because they are familiar. You may be staying close to people who drain your energy, attack your calling, or feed your insecurity. But because you’ve grown attached, you hesitate to let go. God cannot give you divine partnerships if you are still clinging to connections that were only meant to be temporary.
Others are clinging to control. You crave predictability, routine, and the illusion of knowing what comes next. But God does not work in formulas. He works in faith. And faith means stepping without knowing how it ends. If you are constantly trying to manage every outcome, you may be building a life so safe that you leave no room for God to surprise you.
And what about the version of success you built in your head? That picture of what your life should look like by now. The timeline. The expectations. The achievements you think you need in order to feel secure. What if God is calling you to let go of that image so He can give you something far better?
The truth is, we get attached to places, titles, routines, even mindsets. But not all of them are meant to stay with you. Some things were meant to get you here, not carry you there. Moving forward will always mean surrendering something. But what you release will never compare to what God gives in return.
Let go of what you’ve outgrown. Loosen your grip on the things that no longer align with who God is shaping you to become. You cannot carry everything into the next season. And that is not a loss. That is grace.
