A Firm Foundation for Your Worth
“So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?’” – Hebrews 13:6
When you let other people’s opinions dictate how you see yourself, you will never stand on solid ground. The pressure to keep up, impress, or match what someone else is doing will have you constantly shifting, adjusting, and second-guessing who God made you to be.
I remember touring a construction site where part of the walk required crossing a scaffold from one section of the building to the other. It was sturdy enough to hold us, but every time the subway passed underneath, the whole thing shook. And when your footing is unsteady, your focus shifts from where you’re going to how you can just stay upright.
That’s exactly what happens when you build your sense of value on the approval of others. You live in a constant state of adjustment, trying to balance on a foundation that was never meant to hold you.
God did not design you to live on shaky ground. He designed you to stand on the firm foundation of His truth. That means your worth isn’t determined by how closely you match someone else’s highlight reel. It’s not about whether you match the world’s definition of “success.” It’s not about the doors you can open for yourself, but about remembering the doors God has already opened for you.
When you stand on that truth, your footing changes. You no longer have to chase validation. You no longer have to fear being “less than.” You realize that if God calls you His own, there is no higher title you could ever carry.
You can waste a lifetime shifting to match the crowd, or you can plant your feet on the foundation of God’s love and walk with security. Choose the solid ground. Let Him be your anchor. And then watch how steady your steps become.
