Secure in Your Own Path
“Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else.” – Galatians 6:4
Comparison will drain your joy faster than almost anything else. It will make you feel like you’re always behind, never enough, and constantly missing out. The truth is, much of the dissatisfaction people feel today is not because their life is lacking, but because they are comparing it to someone else’s.
I spoke with a young man who wrestled with this for years. He was accepted into a small community college in his hometown. While his friends posted pictures of move-in day at large, well-known universities, his own start to college went unnoticed. No front-page article in the local paper, no scholarship announcements, no crowds cheering him on. As he settled into his small dorm room, doubt began to creep in. Was he enough? Was his path too small?
Then, one afternoon, his younger brother called him, beaming with excitement, and said, “Mama said I can go to college too, just like you.” In that moment, something clicked. He realized that even though his journey didn’t look flashy to the world, it was inspiring someone right in his own family. His influence was already at work, not because he was famous or publicly recognized, but because he was faithfully walking his road.
Many people today struggle with what I call “Obsessive Comparison Disorder.” Measuring their worth against another person’s highlight reel and trading true joy for temporary applause. But your value is not tied to followers, your paycheck, or whether your name is known by thousands. Your worth is found in your identity in Christ and in the steps you’ve taken to be faithful where He’s placed you.
If you’re still standing, you’ve already overcome more than you realize. Stop looking side to side. Keep your eyes on the path God has given you. When you walk it faithfully, your life will touch more people than you could ever imagine.
