Work Like It’s for the Lord
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men." – Colossians 3:23
How many people do you know who are constantly seeking shortcuts in life? The fastest way to make money. The easiest way to get in shape. The simplest way to grow an audience. And while there is nothing wrong with being efficient, there is a big difference between working wisely and cutting corners. God did not call us to half-hearted effort. He called us to work with excellence because ultimately, we are working for Him.
When you see your work as an offering to God, your perspective changes. You no longer give your best only when someone is watching. You no longer measure your effort by how much credit or recognition you will receive. Instead, you show up with diligence, focus, and consistency because you know your work is a reflection of your commitment to the One who gave you the ability to do it in the first place.
The Bible is full of examples of people who worked with excellence in difficult situations. Joseph worked with integrity in Potiphar’s house, even as a slave. Daniel served faithfully in a foreign land, even under kings who did not worship his God. Paul labored tirelessly to plant and strengthen churches, often while facing persecution. They did not cut corners. They did not quit when it got hard. They kept giving their best because they understood who they were really serving.
Working hard is not about exhausting yourself for the sake of pride or proving something to others. It is about being faithful with what God has placed in your hands. It is about honoring Him through the way you show up, the way you follow through, and the way you refuse to compromise your standards.
I want to challenge you today to give your best effort. Not because it will get you applause, but because it is an act of worship. Work as if the Lord Himself is your boss, because in the end, He is.
