Pulling in the Same Direction
"If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand." - Mark 3:25
I read a story about two boys riding a tandem bicycle up a steep hill. The boy in the front pedaled with all his strength, straining to push forward. When they finally reached the top, exhausted, he turned to the boy in the back and said, “That was tough! I pedaled as hard as I could to get us up here.” The other boy responded, “It sure was! If I hadn’t kept the brakes on the whole time, we would have rolled backward!”
They both thought they were helping, but instead, they were working against each other. One was pushing forward while the other was holding back. The climb was already hard, but their lack of unity made it even harder.
That same thing happens in relationships, families, businesses, churches, and teams. Progress gets stalled, not because people do not care, but because they are not pulling in the same direction. Some are pushing forward with vision and faith, while others are holding back out of fear, doubt, or resistance to change. Instead of moving together, they unintentionally work against one another, making the journey more difficult than it needs to be.
If you want to see growth in your life, in your faith, and in the things God has called you to, you have to make sure you are not unintentionally putting on the brakes. Are you resisting what God is trying to do? Are you holding onto old mindsets or fears that are keeping you from moving forward? Are you working in unity with those around you, or are you pulling in a different direction?
God’s mission for your life and His church requires unity and focus. When everyone moves together, nothing can stop the momentum. But when energy is divided, progress is delayed. If you are going to climb the hills ahead, make sure you are fully committed to moving forward—without hesitation, without resistance, and without holding anything back.
