Excited About the Word
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." - Psalm 119:105
There are many things people look for in a church. Some are drawn to the music, the atmosphere, or the programs. Others look for impressive buildings, stage productions, or well-known leaders. But the foundation of a strong, thriving church is not in any of those things. It is in the Word of God.
When people are truly hungry for the Word, that is a sign of a healthy and growing church. The Word brings life, wisdom, and direction. It clarifies where you are and where you need to go. It strengthens your faith, encourages your heart, and leads you through the uncertainties of life.
During the pandemic, I remember going to the grocery store because my fridge and pantry were running low. When I arrived, many of the shelves were bare, and the food that remained was spoiled. I stood there thinking, what good is a grocery store if it cannot feed the people who come to it? That is exactly what happens when a church does not prioritize the Word of God. It may have all the external appeal, but if there is nothing to feed the soul, it is missing its purpose.
People need the Word. They need to be strengthened by it, changed by it, and empowered through it. The prophet Jeremiah described the Word as fire shot up in his bones, something so powerful that he could not keep it inside. That is what the Word should be in your life. A fire that fuels you, a foundation that sustains you, and a source of wisdom that guides you.
If you ever find yourself struggling, lost, or uncertain, the answer is not found in opinions, trends, or entertainment. It is found in the truth of God's Word. That is what will sustain you, lift you, and lead you into the future He has for you. Stay hungry for it, stay grounded in it, and let it transform your life.
