God Will Reveal What Needs to Be Healed
"From now on you shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed." - Genesis 32:28
Jacob had spent his whole life deceiving, manipulating, and pretending to be someone he was not. He had built his success on trickery, but now, on the verge of stepping into his destiny, God confronted him with the one thing he had always avoided; himself.
In a wrestling match that lasted all night, God struck Jacob’s hip, leaving him broken and unable to stand on his own. This was no ordinary injury. It was a symbol of what needed to be healed within him. Jacob’s strength, his pride, and his reliance on his own ways had to be stripped away for him to become the man God was calling him to be.
Maybe you are at a similar crossroads. You sense that God has something greater ahead, but deep inside, there are wounds, habits, and patterns that need to be addressed before you can move forward. You have spent years believing labels placed on you; failure, not good enough, unworthy. You have carried trauma from your past, shaping how you see yourself, how you respond to others, and how you trust God.
That is why God asked Jacob, What is your name? He was not asking because He did not know. He wanted Jacob to face the truth of who he had been so that He could transform him into who he was meant to be. Jacob had been living under an identity that was never meant for him, and before he could step into his calling, he had to let go of the false labels and embrace a new name.
You cannot heal what you refuse to deal with. If you carry anger, insecurity, addiction, or brokenness, it will bleed into every area of your life. But God does not want you to live trapped by the pain of your past. He wants to rename you, redefine you, and release you into a new future.
What is your name? Not what others have called you, but who God says you are. He calls you chosen, redeemed, and made new. If you are willing to confront what needs healing, He will transform your identity and lead you into the destiny He has prepared for you.
