Securing Your Future
"The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him." - Ephesians 1:14
In Ephesians 1:14, Paul describes the Holy Spirit as not only sealing us but also securing us. The Holy Spirit serves as God's pledge, guaranteeing our inheritance and securing our future as His children.
As we have discussed, The Holy Spirit seals us. Just as a seal on a document in ancient times indicated authenticity, the Holy Spirit marks us as authentic children of God. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we are sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, signifying that we belong to God and that our salvation is secure. This seal ensures our identity and authenticity as God's chosen people.
But the Holy Spirit also secures us. Paul compares the Holy Spirit to a deposit, earnest money that guarantees a future inheritance. This deposit is a down payment on the fullness of our inheritance in Christ—a promise that God will fulfill His plans and purposes for us. It's like a buyer putting down earnest money to secure a property, showing commitment and assurance that the transaction will be completed. Similarly, the Holy Spirit is God's guarantee that His promises to us will be fulfilled.
As you walk in faith, remember that the Holy Spirit is your security in Christ. He affirms God's faithfulness and His commitment to us. Therefore, we can live confidently, knowing that God's promises are sure and that His plans for us are secure. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live in the fullness of our inheritance as God's children, enabling us to praise and glorify Him through our lives.
