Anticipating Our Heavenly Reward
"In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will." - Ephesians 1:11
When we give our lives to Christ, we receive multiple blessings: redemption, reconciliation, revelation of God's will, and the responsibility to live for Him. Yet, there's more—God promises us an inheritance. This inheritance isn't merely material or earthly; it's spiritual and eternal, reserved for those who are in Christ Jesus.
The language used by Paul suggests a dual implication: we have an inheritance from Christ and an inheritance for Christ. Our lives are meant to mirror Christ's surrender and obedience, while also eagerly anticipating the day when we will receive our heavenly reward. Living for "the praise of His glory" means we are living as reflections of God's grace and love in the world.
A colleague of mine told me about a friend of his son who was treated with generosity and kindness by his friend's father. He was included in family dinners, taken shopping, and even given gifts as if he were their own. This act of kindness deeply impacted him, shaping his life and choices. Similarly, when we accept Christ, we become part of God's family. We receive privileges and blessings that we don't deserve—God's love poured out upon us through Jesus Christ.
As children of God, we enjoy the rights and privileges of our heavenly Father because of our relationship with His Son. We are not only recipients of His blessings but also bearers of His light and love in a world desperate for hope and redemption.
Take a moment to reflect on the blessings you have received through Christ: redemption from sin, reconciliation with God, revelation of His will, and the responsibility to live for Him. Embrace these blessings with gratitude and anticipation of the heavenly reward awaiting you.
Live each day in the assurance of your inheritance in Christ, knowing that God has prepared a future for you beyond what you can imagine. Let your life continually reflect the grace and goodness of our Heavenly Father as we eagerly await our eternal reward in Him.
