Just Stir It Up
"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us." - Ephesians 3:20
God’s power is available to everyone. When Paul talks about the power that works within “us,” he is referring to both Gentiles and Jews who have surrendered their lives to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This power is not exclusive to a select few; it is available to all who accept Him. You don’t have to be a legacy member or a big donor to access God’s power. If you need it (and you do), God’s power is AVAILABLE to you. All you need to do is open your heart, surrender your will, and give your hands to Him.
At the time of Paul’s writing, there was a belief that God’s power was restricted to people of a certain background, race, or belief. People thought that God's power was confined to those who were morally pure and ethically perfect, who dotted every “I” and crossed every “T.” Paul wanted to be clear that God’s power is available to all, not just a few, not just a little bit, but to everyone. You don’t have to be perfect or flawless. All you have to do is live your life for God. His power and presence are gifts available to all His children.
The power of God is already at work within us. Paul later tells Timothy to “stir up the gift of God” that was already within him. It’s the same for us. We have the power within us; we just need to be willing to use it.
One day, a friend of mine boarded an airplane and asked the stewardess for a cup of coffee with cream and sugar. When the stewardess returned with a cup of coffee, it was black. Thinking she had ignored his request, he called her over and said, “Miss, I asked for cream and sugar in my coffee, and you have brought me black coffee.” She replied, “Sir, there is cream and sugar in your coffee. My job is to put it in there, but it’s your job to stir it up.”
If we want our lives to reflect the grace and goodness that God has already put within us, we must be willing to stir up that power by grabbing a hold of what’s already been placed in us. You’ve already got the power; you just need to stir it up. You’ve got the power to write the book, just stir it up. You’ve got the power to build the business, just stir it up. You’ve got the power to finish your degree, just stir it up. You’ve got the power to run the company, just stir it up.
Remember, God’s power is available to you, no matter your past mistakes or poor choices. It’s time to recognize and activate the power within you. Stir it up and let God’s power work through you to accomplish immeasurably more than you could ever ask or imagine.
