Connecting with the Person of God
"On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: 'Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.'" - Acts 1:4
The story we discussed yesterday of walking into a KFC and finding out they had no chicken, makes us question how such a core element could be missing. Similarly, many come to church seeking the essence of faith, yet often leave without encountering what they need most: a genuine connection with the person of God.
Just as a restaurant should have its main offering, our faith journey should center around knowing God personally. Often, we approach God with a list of requests, seeking solutions to our problems, healing for our wounds, or guidance for our decisions. While these are valid needs, they shouldn't be our primary focus. True transformation happens when we seek to know God Himself, rather than just what He can do for us.
In Acts 1:4, Jesus instructed His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit, the promised gift from the Father. This waiting was not merely for power or guidance but for a deeper connection with God's very essence. The Holy Spirit brings us into an intimate relationship with God, enabling us to know Him personally.
Think now about your relationship with God. Are you more focused on what He can do for you, or are you seeking to know Him more deeply? Spend time in prayer, not just asking for things but listening and seeking His presence. Read the Scriptures, not just for answers but to understand His character and heart. Worship, not just for the emotional experience but to honor and connect with Him.
Connecting with the person of God is where true life change happens. When we know Him, we become more like Him. We find that our desires, motivations, and actions begin to align with His will. The transformation is profound, leading us to live lives that not only reflect His love but also draw others to Him.
So, the question today is: Are you seeking to know God for who He is? Let go of approaching Him merely as a problem-solver and start seeking Him as your Heavenly Father. Embrace the relationship He offers and experience the transformation that comes from knowing the person of God.
