Beyond Our Desires
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." - Isaiah 55:8-9
In our journey of faith, we often encounter moments when God's will for us diverges from our own desires. It can be challenging to accept this misalignment, especially when we have set our hearts on certain outcomes. However, it is crucial to remember that God's plan for us is always far greater than anything we could imagine or desire for ourselves.
The prophet Isaiah reminds us in Isaiah 55:8-9 that God's thoughts and ways are infinitely higher than ours. His perspective encompasses all of eternity, while ours is limited by time and human understanding. Therefore, when God's will differs from our desires, it is because He sees a broader and more magnificent picture than we can comprehend.
God's desire for us to align our desires with His will is not merely a command to be obeyed, but a loving invitation to experience the abundance of His blessings. When we surrender our own plans and ambitions to Him, we open ourselves up to receive His best for our lives—plans that exceed our wildest dreams.
Even when we cannot see the outcome or understand the reasons behind God's direction, we can trust in His goodness and faithfulness. He promises to work all things together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28), and His plans for us are filled with hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).
When we align our desires with God's will, we position ourselves to receive His abundant blessings, which go far beyond what we could ever ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). God longs to pour out His blessings upon us, not because we deserve them, but because of His great love and grace toward us.
So, do not be discouraged when your desires do not align with God's will. Instead, trust in His wisdom and sovereignty, knowing that His plans for us are far greater than anything we could ever hope for or imagine.
