Aligning Our Desires with God's Will
"Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." - Psalm 139:23-24
As we journey through life, we often find ourselves yearning for certain things—dreams, ambitions, relationships, or possessions—that may not align with God's perfect will for us. In those moments, it's essential to pause and reflect on whether our desires are in harmony with His plans.
Sometimes, our desires may stem from worldly influences, selfish ambitions, or fleeting passions that lead us away from God's best for us. However, as followers of Christ, our ultimate desire should be to seek His will above all else.
When we recognize that our desires are not aligned with God's will, we must humble ourselves before Him and pray for His guidance. We can follow the example outlined in Psalm 139:23-24, where the psalmist implores God to search his heart, reveal any sinful tendencies, and lead him in the way of everlasting truth.
Instead of stubbornly clinging to our own plans and desires, let us surrender them to the Lord in prayer. Let us ask Him to align our hearts with His so that what we want is what He wants for us. This act of surrender requires trust and faith that God's plans are far greater than our own.
As we submit our desires to God and seek His will above our own, we open ourselves to His transformative power. Through prayer and the work of the Holy Spirit within us, our desires can be reshaped and realigned with God's perfect plan for our lives.
If you find yourself wrestling with desires that do not align with God's will, do not despair. Instead, turn to Him in prayer, asking for His wisdom, guidance, and grace to align your heart with His. Trust that as you seek Him wholeheartedly, He will lead you in the way of everlasting truth and fulfillment.
