Stepping Out on Faith
“Then the LORD said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old? ' Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” – Genesis 18:13-14
Sarah overheard the Lord speaking to Abraham. The Lord told Abraham that Sarah was going to have a child in the upcoming year. However, Sarah, when hearing the news laughed in disbelief. In her earthly mind, she couldn’t conceive how she (being past childbearing years) would be able to give birth.
However, the Lord, seeing Sarah’s response, asked Abraham “Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old? ' Is anything too hard for the LORD?” The Lord knew what He was capable of. He just needed Abraham and Sarah to step out on faith and believe that He could do what they couldn’t do alone.
The Lord had made a covenant to Abraham that he would make him the father of many nations and that his descendants would be numerous. So, the promise just needed to be fulfilled. However, in the interim, there was a season of waiting. And that waiting season is not always easy.
Similar to Abraham and Sarah, we often have times when we are waiting on God to do the impossible. By carnal standards, the situation may appear daunting. However, we are not operating in our own strength. We are operating in God’s strength; and if He makes a promise, rest assured it will come to pass.
Even if the end result is not what you anticipated, it will be exactly what you need. Don’t worry, don’t lose sleep, just have faith, trusting that God knows exactly what you need when you need it. Focus on Him and not your situation and you too will have an Abraham and Sarah testimony.
