Double Minded
“Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” - James 4:8
We have spent a lot of time the last few weeks talking about success. Not worldly success, but godly success – success in the eyes of our Creator. There is nothing more fulfilling than living out God’s good and perfect will for our life.
To do that, we must draw near to Him. How are we going to know what He wants us to do or how we can be successful if we do not know His plans for our lives? The only way to know His plan is to draw close to Him.
James 4:8 tells us, “Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
But He doesn’t just say to draw near. He tells us to “wash our hands and purify our hearts.” Let me warn you, my friend. You cannot do the Lord’s work when you are compromised. That means you can’t be what James calls “double-minded.”
You can’t serve two masters at once. You can’t do the devil’s work on Saturday night and the Lord’s work on Sunday morning. So many people live this double life of doing whatever they want to do and then want to turn around and find God’s blessings in their lives.
It doesn’t work that way. You can’t be compromised. You cannot be lukewarm. You can’t be double-minded. God needs your full commitment. Even if that means giving up the ways of this world. When you decide to sacrifice the worldly for the things of God, you will be blessed.
What God wants to give you is tenfold what the world can offer. But you must make the choice. Am I going to do what I want to do or what God wants me to do? There is no place for the double-minded in God’s Kingdom. He needs your whole heart.
Which side are you going to choose? God will bless you, but first, you must give Him everything, including your whole mind, body, and spirit.
