Waiting on YOU
“The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” - 2 Peter 3:9
Yesterday, we discussed how God is never too slow. He is still working on your situation. However, sometimes we are the reason for the delay in our change of circumstances. 2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
Did you catch that? It is not that the Lord is too slow to fulfill His promise, but instead, He is being patient towards you. He is waiting on YOU. In other words, you have some maturing to do, you have some challenges to overcome, and when YOU are ready, then God will fulfill the promise He has given you.
Just because God gives us a promise does not mean in that moment, we are ready to receive His promise. Imagine if your parents gave you a million dollars when you were five years old and told you that you could do whatever you wanted with that money. You would probably buy a candy or toy store and indulge to your heart’s content.
At 45... 35... 25... or even at 18, you would probably be mad at what your five-year-old self did with that money. Because at that age, you aren’t ready to handle that kind of responsibility. And the same applies to our spiritual selves.
God doesn’t want to give you something great just for you to squander it. He needs to know that you are ready to handle the blessings He has in store for you.
If you are frustrated with God’s timing, talk to Him about it. Ask Him to reveal where you still need to grow so that you can mature into the blessings and promises God wants to give you.
